Title - WHO LACED MY DUNKS? - EXPERIMENTAL VIDEO FOR NIKE
This is an experimental video I created to help promote NIKE.
The treatment for this video was a play on the phrase ‘who laced my dunks’. The idea was about someone lacing your shoes and being transported into this other world, similar the the one we know, but with some ‘uncaney valley’ differences to create a stylised look. I also wanted to experiment with a 360º camera. I later learnt that this was a hinderence in getting the stylised effect.
The process of creating this film was breaking the footage into each individual frame, from here I used some software called Stable Diffusion, an AI generation tool. Stable Diffusion allows you to create cohearant video from AI generated images.
The first step is using Img2Img (image to image) software. I import the first frame of the video and begin the creation process by providing promps and playing around with different settings available. This lets me create the ‘AI generated look’.
From here, I can use Batch Generation to spread those same settings across the rest of the frames in the video. Once all the frames are generated you have a more cohearant video to watch. The flickering you see is different querks of each image.
However, the problem that I ran into was using a 360º camera. The way that Stable Diffusion works is by defining what is in the scene first, and then creating a stylised look, without breaking up what is in the scene. This works really well on the shot of the person, however, this ends up changing once the 360º footage starts. 360º is increadebly warped footage, and works very well for what is does, but because it is warped it makes it very difficult to define what is in the scene.
I think this project has strong ideas involved, but if I was to do it again, there are a lot of things that I would do differently. I am glad I chose to do this project how I did though because, it was an experimental piece for myself and experimental for the software, it is a very new piece of tech which can only develop in a postive way.
